A twin-centre holiday filled with world-class sights!

Just a few miles outside of Amsterdam, the historic center of Haarlem invites visitors to hidden courtyards from bygone times and trendy concept stores. Visit famous museums, shops, restaurants and the sandy beach around the corner. Enjoy the sights, picturesque squares and the rich history.

Haarlem is an ideal base for a visit to world famous attractions, such as the windmills in the Zaanse Schans, the tulips in the Keukenhof and a canal cruise in Amsterdam.

When it’s time to leave Haarlem then follow our route description and stop en route for a visit to Volendam. As a result of its completely insulated location, this fishing village preserved its character for six centuries.

After arrival at your hotel you take some time to recover from all the impressions during this holiday. The detached hotel rooms at the farm are beautifully situated right next to the ‘omringdijk’ and offer a splendid view all around. Your bikes are ready for you to discover the beautiful landscape and authentic villages. Stop on the way for a cup of coffee with a delicious local pastry.

A great experience is to rent a boat and explore our beautiful nature with excellent places for fishing, swimming and picnics.

Here you have ten full days, so take it easy and get the most out of the tranquil atmosphere of the countryside.

DAY 1: ARRIVAL AT HOTEL

Today you arrive at your hotel. Discover the historical center of Haarlem or enjoy a drink on a cozy terrace.

DAY 2: ZAANSE SCHANS

The Zaanse Schans is a residential area in which the 18th and 19th centuries are brought to life. Stroll past the bakery museum and enjoy the smell of fresh cookies, or take a look at the warehouse where clogs are made. The Zaanse Schans is a unique part of the Netherlands, full of wooden houses, mills, barns and workshops. A day out at the Zaanse Schans is fun and educational.

DAY 3: AMSTERDAM

Amsterdam is a legacy from the Golden Age with an extensive canal network and narrow gable houses. The city has a rich culture, a variety of museums, festivals, theaters, a great night life and international restaurants. A fantastic way to discover Amsterdam is during a bike tour or a canal cruise.

DAY 4: KEUKENHOF

Keukenhof, the best day out among the flowers! Over 7 million bulbs will bloom this spring, with a total of 800 varieties of tulips. A unique, unforgettable experience!

DAY 5: VOLENDAM

Today you leave Haarlem. The fastest way to Aartswoud is via the highway A9, but a nice alternative is via highway A7 and stop to visit Volendam. As a result of its insulated location, this fishing village preserved its character for six centuries. In a friendly atmosphere you walk past characteristic small houses and over the Dijk with its many shops, restaurants and terraces where you enjoy a great view of the harbor and the water.

DAY 6: STEAM TRAM HOORN-MEDEMBLIK

Your journey back in time starts in Hoorn where you step on board of the Museum Steamtram that will take you from village to village across the Westfrisian countryside to Medemblik. Here you have time for a lunch or some shopping. In the afternoon the old-fashioned steamer with a fantastic saloon-deck sails along the coast of lake IJsselmeer to Enkhuizen. From Enkhuizen a regular train takes you back to Hoorn.

DAY 7: ALKMAAR

The Cheese Market in Alkmaar dates back to the 14th century and nowadays thousands of visitors from around the world visit the Waagplein for its cheese market, a particular spectacle which includes a market filled with cheese and hauling cheese carriers. Besides the cheese you can taste many more typical Dutch specialties such as Poffertjes and Haring.

DAY 8: BIKING

Follow one of the many bicycle routes through the characteristic villages. Enjoy the beautiful views over the meadows and tulip fields. Take a break on the way for a coffee with delicious Dutch pastry and lunch with sandwiches and cheese.

DAY 9: RELAX

Take some time to recover from all the impressions during this holiday. You can rent a boat or a canoe in the area, or just do nothing. If you can not get enough of Holland but still want to relax then Medemblik is definitely worth a visit. Besides attractions such as a castle, the steam engine museum and the bakery museum you will find a lovely beach on the IJsselmeer.

DAY 10: TOT ZIENS!

All good things come to an end. Take the wonderful memories of this holiday back home and of course we hope to see you again in Holland. We say ’tot ziens’!

Haarlem

Your hotel is located in Haarlem, the capital of the province. A beautiful historic city center, famous museums, shops, restaurants and the beach around the corner. From hidden courtyards from bygone times to trendy concept stores. Enjoy the sights, boutiques, picturesque squares and the rich history.

Restinn Aartswoud

Kerckeplaes farm, owned by Kees and Jeannette Nieuweboer, always hums with activity. The Nieuweboer family keeps about 100 cows and grows corn as well as tulips. The detached hotel rooms at the farm are beautifully situated right next to the omringdijk and offer a splendid view all around.

When you walk down the path from the farm, you will pass an impressive water mill. The ‘Westuit nr.7’ was built in the year 1560 and was used for water regulation purposes. Over time, the original mills disappeared from the scenery, but this (still operative) mill has passed the test of time.

In Aartswoud you will find a very special but interesting museum, the live cattle museum Aat Grootes. Here you can admire rare cattle breeds and learn about life in the countryside through the years.

Made to measure holidays!

The excursions during the holidays are our personal recommendations, but of course we can adjust the program to your preferences. The order of the itinerary may change because of the opening days of the cheese market and folklore market. When the attractions, such as the Keukenhof, are closed, you can be assured that we offer you a nice alternative for that day.

We will do anything to adjust your holiday to your wishes.
