DAY 1: ARRIVAL AT HOTEL
Today you arrive at your accommodation. Explore the area or take a walk along the lake.
DAY 2: MEDEMBLIK
Discover the castle ‘Radboud’ from the tower to the dungeon. In the museum there are materials from the Middle Ages to admire, the period that Castle Radboud is built. The Castle Café is open for a delicious cup of coffee/tea, cake or lunch.
We advise a light lunch because in the afternoon you visit the most delicious museum in the Netherlands. In the Bakery Museum today’s bakers demonstrate the craft of the past with cake, marzipan and chocolate. The children can continuously participate in activities, for example decorating a cake.
DAY 3: BIKING
Follow one of the many bicycle routes through the characteristic villages. Enjoy the beautiful views and visit a farm or a mill on the way. Stop for a coffee with delicious Dutch pastry or a lunch with sandwiches and cheese.
DAY 4: FUN FOR KIDS
Today you can choose different kinds of fun for your kids. In Enkhuizen you visit the amusement park of the fairy tales ‘Sprookjeswonderland‘. If it is a typical Dutch rainy day your kids can let off steam in the indoor playground ‘Fun Festijn‘ in Medemblik.
DAY 5: STEAM TRAM HOORN-MEDEMBLIK
Your journey back in time starts in Hoorn where you step on board of the Museum Steam tram that will take you from village to village across the Westfrisian countryside to Medemblik. In the afternoon the old-fashioned steamer with a fantastic saloon-deck sails along the coast of lake IJsselmeer to Enkhuizen. From Enkhuizen a regular train takes you back to Hoorn.
DAY 6: ON THE WATER
Sail through ditches and canals in your electric boat and find some excellent places for swimming and picnics.
DAY 7: ENKHUIZEN
How was life in Westfriesland formerly? You will find the answer in the ‘Zuiderzee Museum‘. In this museum you imagine yourself back in time and experience for yourself what it was like to live in the houses of the past and taste the old-fashioned local products in the restaurant.
DAY 8: HOORN
In Hoorn you will encounter the history of the powerful Dutch East India Company during the 17th and 18th centuries. You can visit a museum to learn more about this important and at the same time dark period. The nicest way to get to know the city is to take a city walk with a guide.
DAY 9: RELAX
Take some time to recover from all the impressions during this holiday. Relax on one of the lovely beaches or visit a swimming pool in the area.
DAY 10: TOT ZIENS!
All good things come to an end. Take the wonderful memories of this holiday back home and of course we hope to see you again in Holland. We say ‘tot ziens‘!
