The most fun museum in the Netherlands is the Steam tram Hoorn-Medemblik. Your journey starts in Hoorn where you board the Museum steam tram that takes you through the countryside to Medemblik. After arrival, there’s plenty of time to explore this beautiful town, before your next departure.
Before, during and after your train journey, our youngest visitors (aged 4-12) can participate in the ‘Steam Safari’. Shovel coal into the loco’s firebox and help the porter loading parcels, or the mail conductor sorting letters! And do not forget to visit the Hoorn signal box and workshop, where not only our steam locos are being restored and maintained but also coaches and wagons.
Steam loco ‘Bello’ is the most famous engine in our collection, having taken millions of
daytrippers to the seaside at Bergen until 1955. But on the Hoorn-Medemblik branch line, opened in 1887, you can also travel in steam trams from the Amsterdam/Gooi, Zeeland, Friesland and Limburg regions.
In Medemblik you can board the museum ship to Enkhuizen to complete the Historical Triangle between the historic ‘Zuiderzee’ towns of Hoorn, Medemblik and Enkhuizen. Definitely the best day out for the whole family!
Experience the time travel of the Historical Triangle that connects the historic towns Hoorn, Medemblik and Enkhuizen. Your journey back in time starts in Hoorn where you step on board of the Museum steam tram that will take you from village to village across the Westfrisian countryside to Medemblik. Here you have time for a lunch or some shopping. In the afternoon the old-fashioned steamer with a fantastic saloon-deck sails along the coast of the former South Sea to Enkhuizen.
From here a regular train takes you back to Hoorn. You can also take your bike with you in a special carriage and cycle back to your hotel.
It is also possible to start the journey in Enkhuizen on board of the ship ‘Friesland’, and travel to Medemblik.
